Sara Wright, Cofounder
Born Gladys Sara Collins on October 24, 1910, near Huntsville. Ala., Sara Wright was an active member of the Rome real estate community for almost 40 years. After the unexpected death of her husband Carlton Wright, an attorney, in 1957, Sara entered the local industry in hopes of giving her enough flexibility to raise while providing for their three children: Sally Wright Shropshire, Adeline “Dinky” Wright Hanks, and Nancie Wright McManus. She was first introduced to real estate by John M. Graham Jr. in the late 1950s and founded Sara Wright Real Estate. In 1972, the associate broker joined Brooke Temple and Max Toles to establish the real estate firm of Toles, Temple & Wright, Inc.
Throughout her career, Sara was the recipient of numerous awards, including “Salesman of the Year,” which she received 10 times during her years at TTW. She also holds the unique distinction of being the first inductee into the Greater Rome Board of Realtors‘ Hall of Fame.
Sara Wright died at her home in Rome at the age of 89 on August 21, 2000. At her funeral, TTW staff served as honorary pallbearers.
Outside of real estate, Wright will always be lovingly remembered by a multitude of cousins and friends, both young and old, who were deeply touched and enriched by her presence in their lives. Her house was considered a home away from home for many young people, and she was often referred to as their “Other Mother.”
