When it was established in the mid- to late 1990s, Maplewood East was considered ahead of its time for the Coosa Valley. On land originally owned by Trend Mills cofounder Theodore “Tedd” Munchak, Maplewood East would ultimately become one of the most sought-after developments for old Romans and new Romans alike. Winding streets navigate the hills and valleys of an area adjoining the original Maplewood, while respecting its beautiful, natural setting.
The initial phase of the subdivision visible from the main road was spearheaded by former state Rep. Paul Smith, known for his contributions and service to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). Soon thereafter, other portions of the neighborhood were brought to fruition by Toles, Temple & Wright and M. Wayne Robinson Builders to create Maplewood East as it is known today. When section II was laid out in the late 1990s, more than 50 lots were listed and marketed exclusively by TTW.
What made Maplewood East so groundbreaking in the later phases was its transformation into Rome’s first real swim and tennis community. Responding to a call from the local market for this type of neighborhood “experience” and accompanying quality of life, Brooke Temple and Wayne Robinson saw the opportunity to offer something truly different. Its convenient location off Turner Chapel Road gave the subdivision another edge. The ease in access to Cartersville and Atlanta via the East Rome Bypass (Loop 1) and Highway 411 continues to be one of the many reasons buyers choose Maplewood East.
This development delivered further proof of the company’s promise to fulfill the area’s need for residential construction at slightly higher price points that catered to the family demographic. The style of the homes constructed in Maplewood East ranges from classic to contemporary, with a mix of traditional and modern open-concept floor plans. Each home is finished in different variations of brick, rock and/or Hardie Plank – all situated on larger lots. With the vast range of different home sizes and configurations available, the neighborhood has even allowed for growing families to move on and/or move up as their needs change while still remaining in the same development.
