When it was created in the heart of the East Rome residential district in the late 1980s, the Oaks at Collinwood became the area’s first garden home development of its kind. Several years in the making, Toles, Temple & Wright and M. Wayne Robinson Builders established a unique gated condominium concept that offered “individual ownership in quality construction.” Throughout the development, virgin oaks, pines and magnolia trees shadow the complex and line Vinings Drive, which leads to a quiet, secluded entrance that creates an inviting “welcome home” atmosphere. From the main, circular drive emerges Vinings Court; as well as a serene pond surrounded by nature and opportunities for leisurely strolls.

Approximately 50 homes designed in the Georgian and Old Williamsburg architectural styles were built on a 12 ½-acre private and secure tract — an old-growth forest off Collinwood Drive that originally belonged to the Dr. Lucius S. Smith family. The first property owners of each lot had the option to select from six approved floor plans in one-level or two story configurations (1,400 to 3,000 square feet) in two-to-three-bedroom-plus combinations; or have custom plans created to fit the development’s overall theme and scale. The layout of each home and lot, including respective off-street sheltered parking, was thoughtfully designed to reduce visual clutter so as to enhance the natural atmosphere and surroundings.

Because of the desirable location and size of this private, association-managed community – together with a longer average length of ownership – homes listed in the Oaks at Collinwood do not last for long before they are sold.
