Dan Carlton
“Be yourself.
Everyone else is already taken.”
Dan Carlton joined Toles, Temple & Wright, Inc. in 2019 as an associate broker, bringing with him more than 25 years of commercial and residential appraisal and real estate brokerage experience. His specialty and interest are primarily in the commercial sector, with expertise in a wide variety of properties. Just before coming to TTW, Dan owned Rainwater Realty.
Dan is a native of Rockmart and comes from a family of small-business owners. After attending the University of Georgia, he returned home to work at Carlton’s Department Store – a clothing business originally started by his great-grandfather as a dry goods store in Downtown Rockmart. After a few years working for the family business, Dan embarked on a new adventure to the Aspen, Colo. area. At the Snowmass Club, he quickly worked his way up from washing linens to managing the front desk. It proved to be a transformative experience for him.
When it was time for a new challenge, he inched his way into the world of real estate. After a few years in Colorado, he joined his brother in Hilton Head Island, S.C. to get a taste of selling realty. From there, Dan moved closer to home and relocated to Atlanta, where he ultimately became a real estate broker and appraiser.
In 1996, the adventure seeker moved to Rome to further pursue his real estate career. It was in his new home that Dan met his wife, Misty. To this day they continue to operate Carlton Real Estate Services, their family-owned appraisal company.
More than being a jack of all trades, Dan believes in the importance of having a specialty and knowing its ins and outs. It is a way he has found his own niche in several closely-related industries, setting himself apart with his expediency and efficiency. Additionally, his background in commercial evaluations allows him to better serve clients from both sides.
Dan’s favorite transactions are the ones that require him to really think outside of the box as a creative problem solver. He especially enjoys playing matchmaker and finding the perfect property for his clients, no matter how specific the needs and wants.
With a naturally inquisitive mind, Dan enjoys new challenges and discovering how things work. When his daughters were younger, he was not impressed with the books the kids their age were reading. As someone who already enjoyed writing, he decided to explore the process behind publishing a book. This project led to Dan being named a finalist in the Georgia Author of the Year Awards program (2018), placing second in the Children’s Book category with his original story, “Ollie and the Wise Old Owl.”
Dan and Misty are the parents of two daughters – Katie and Callie. In his free time, he enjoys playing folk guitar, songwriting, and going with his family on vacations to Walt Disney World.
